Dundalk was founded in 1917 when Bethlehem Steel developed the community to house shipyard and steel mill workers, making it one of the first planned communities in Baltimore County. Architect Edward L. Palmer laid out the curvilinear streets and designed the mix of rowhouses, semi-detached, and detached homes, most of which were built with traditional plaster walls that are now more than a century old.
