Timonium takes its name from the old "Timonium Estate," the land the Maryland State Fair moved to in 1879 after outgrowing its first home in neighboring Lutherville, which was founded in 1852 by two Lutheran ministers. Because the area developed in phases from the mid-1800s through the mid-20th century, Timonium has a genuine mix of older homes with original plaster and newer construction with drywall, sometimes on the same block.
